Following Mexico Beach's rocking fireworks displays they had a nice calming sand castle contest, but it doesn't mean it lacked a little competition.

Bright and early in the morning Mexico Beach sponsored the sand sculpture contest that was held on the beach just east of Toucans Restaurant.

The whole family was invited to this one, but there was only one rule. They had to have fun, and it looked like the rule was being accomplished as children and their parents built beautiful castles in the sand.

They had a 5K walk/run, children's fishing tournament, and of course a fireworks show.

Connie Risingera, a Mexico Beach resident, said, "Well, we decided it would be better to do it after the other events and that we probably wouldn't have even had room on the beach to do that."

Organizers from Mexico Beach say they were trying to appeal to all ages this year, young and old alike.
