Not only was Mardi Gras celebrations in full force this weekend, another New Orleans favorite was invading the Gulf Coast.
The 23rd annual Sandestin Gumbo Festival weathered the afternoon storms Saturday at the Village of Baytowne Wharf at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
Hundreds of gumbo-lovers showed up to taste-test and vote for their favorite home-made gumbo made fresh from several gulf coast restaurants and area businesses.
A cajun band was also on hand to spice things up and it brought out the competitive edge among those trying to win the title of "best gumbo".
Pompano Joe's seafood restaurant in Miramar Beach took home the title of "The People's Choice".
