After months of dealing with a leaky roof, the Bay County courthouse may soon get a brand new one. Monday, the courthouse facilities steering committee voted to move forward with the repairs and submit a request to the county commission for funding.
County Judge Elijah Smiley, who is a member of the committee, says a new metal roof will cost about 500-thousand dollars. It will now go to the commission for a final vote.
In February, the building took a major hit after heavy rains caused water to gush through an already leaky roof. And Judge Smiley says it has been a problem since. Just last week, water leaked into the third floor of the building.
The committee is also discussing other additions to the courthouse building but did not come to any final decisions about what is needed.
