A Mexico Beach man will spend the rest of this life in prison for killing his landlord.
Judge Dedee Costello sentenced Aaron Scott Garner to the life term.
Last month, Garner pleaded guilty to first degree murder in last year's beating death of his Mexico Beach landlord, 57-year-old Rebecca Ann Shepherd.
Sheppard's daughter and brother testified at Monday’s sentencing.
Garner, whose sanity was an issue over the past several months, says he murdered Shepherd because he felt she was charging him too much rent.
He asked Judge Costello if he could withdraw his guilty plea. When Costello asked Garner if he had a good reason to withdraw the plea, he said no. So she denied the request.
Garner will serve life without the possibility of parole.
