Visitors to the St. Andrews area may notice a new glow coming from above.
Members of the St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership officially flipped the switch on a brand new street light system. The new low hanging lamps line Beck Avenue from 12th Street South to Oaks by the Bay Park.
While the fixtures fit with the rustic atmosphere of St. Andrews, the lights themselves are state-of-the art. It's a new type of light called metal hilide that gives off a cleaner, whiter light that's more energy efficient.
This project has been in the works since 1998. It provides the old St. Andrews area with a more uniform look and, most importantly, improved safety.
Craig Thurmond, Waterfront Partnership President, said, "Over the past, St. Andrews has come and gone and we've had a bit of shady experiences that have happened in St. Andrews. This just further promotes everything were doing as a partnership in St. Andrews to bring new life to the city streetscape."
The $127,000 cost of the streetscape project came out of CRA funds.
