A Colonel based at Fort Rucker has been nominated for the rank of one-star general in the Army.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced Tuesday that President Bush has put Col. Warren E. Phipps Jr.'s name forward for promotion to the rank of brigadier general. He was one of 40 such nominations released by the Pentagon.
Phipps currently serves as deputy commander of the Army Aviation's Warfighting Center, located in southeast Alabama.
The U.S. Senate must approve Phipp's nomination.
