The Flugtag concept is simple. Teams build something they hope will fly, and then run it off the end of a ramp, but making it work is a lot harder than it looks.
The team of four is from West Bay Fire Station and has something to celebrate. Their flying machine took third place.
It was called the "Little Engine That Could" and it was made of PVC and Styrofoam and resembles the tanker truck number 605 stationed at West Bay Fire Station.
The team captain from the "Local Little Engine That Could", Matthew Lopez, said on the phone the entire experience was amazing.
"When we finally got up on the platform we gave our tribute to America's fallen heroes. We pushed the craft off the end and it didn't fly like we actually expected it to. It kinda went down like a rock, but we still had a blast and won third place overall."
Lopez says a lot of their personal money was invested into the competition, but he says it was worth every dime.
