An area man who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for heroism in the Vietnam War has died.
Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Michael J. Novosel died Sunday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was 83.
Novosel lived in Fort Walton Beach, but had been a longtime resident of Enterprise, Alabama.
Army officials announced Novosel's death at Fort Rucker, near his home.
Novosel became a military aviation cadet at age 19. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for a 1969 helicopter rescue of wounded South Vietnamese soldiers pinned down by a large enemy force.
Novosel was wounded as he rescued 29 men.
