A Florida panhandle zoo is asking local officials to help it out of financial woes. Officials from the “Zoo Northwest Florida” at Gulf Breeze are asking the Santa Rosa County Commission to become the first member of the "Tri-County Interlocal Zoological Authority."

The organization would include governments from Santa Rosa, Escambia and Okaloosa counties, to help the zoo regain its financial footing.

The zoo's Executive Director says, if the commission can't find a way to work with them, she will have to recommend closing the zoo.

Last year, the zoo at Gulf Breeze announced it was three million dollars in debt, because damage from hurricanes was not covered by insurance.

Good News!! Before I go into any details, I encouraged some friends of mine in "high places"to launch a fundraiser/golf tournament at a very prestigious golf course nearby. I recently visited the zoo and was saddened at the condition. Not so much of the animals, who all were very healthy, but for the grounds and the attractions. I have been experienced in political campaigns and am a animal lover. My daughter became so excited when she eased dropped on a recent meeting I organized to discuss the possibilities, and listening to me on the phone doing research. I am a business owner and love marketing. So far, I am getting only positive results. I cannot promise anything, however I am working with highly qualified individuals and working on a plan. The amount of businesses I am encouraging to get involved are on a large scale. Many corporate. I will be contacting the zoo this week to schedule a time to sit and discuss the possibilities, and get the info I need to put it into action.
