Sixty-three-year-old nancy Garrett was reported missing on Sunday evening by her husband Wayne. Her family says she often took frequent walks around the Forest Park neighborhood.
Today deputies found her body behind her home on Lisenby Avenue in a wooded area right across from Chapman Park.
Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen confirmed the body found is that of Nancy Garrett. Deputies have blocked off the entire area around Nancy Garrett's house on Lisenby Avenue after a K-9 officer found the body behind the home.
The medical examiner's office and state attorney's office are also involved.
The Bay County Sheriff's air unit circled the home of Nancy Garrett Tuesday afternoon taking photos of the crime scene. The body of Nancy Garrett was found in the wooded area behind the home around 12:20 Tuesday afternoon.
Sheriff's investigators had been scouring the area since Sunday night when Garrett was reported missing. The BCSO mounted posse took part in the search spreading out miles around the home.
Tuesday morning Garrett’s family pleaded on camera for the safe return of their loved one.
"I will hold out hope until the very end. That's what you have to have. If you don't have hope in this world it's all over with," said Wayne Garrett, Nancy Garrett's husband.
"I don't think anybody ever dreams of this kind of nightmare. We do not know what happened. We have a mystery. We know she took a walk, but we don't where she ended up," said Guy Garrett, Nancy Garrett's son.
Investigators say so far they are not ruling anything out at this point. Again this is still the preliminary stages of this investigation. The family of Nancy Garrett was taken in for questioning after the body was found.
