The St. Joe Company is hoping to build on the early successes of Pier Park.
Officials are now planning a 400,000 square foot retail shopping complex on 58 acres, right across the street from Pier Park, north of Back Beach Road.
Spokesman Jerry Ray says the company is hoping to attract large national retail outlets.
St. Joe is teaming up with Glimcher Realty Trust, the same people who developed Destin Commons.
Although the economy isn't great right now, Ray says St. Joe is confident the long-term growth potential for the region will make the investment worthwhile.
