Brush Fire Destroys 150 Acres in Santa Rosa County

Authorities say six homes in Santa Rosa County were briefly evacuated and a truck was destroyed due to a brush fire.

Fire officials say the blaze started Sunday afternoon when strong winds spread flames from wood mulch piles.

A spokesman for the Florida Division of Forestry says more than 150 acres burned. Nearly 90 percent of the fire was extinguished Sunday night.

An unidentified volunteer firefighter was treated at a local hospital for heat exhaustion and released.

Firefighters from 17 departments in four counties helped fight the blaze.
