Judge to Seek Another Term

Bay County Judge Elijah Smiley announced he is going to run for another term on the bench.

Smiley was first appointed as judge in 1995. Since then he has handled more than 20,000 cases and presided over 125 jury trials.

Smiley says he currently handling half of the criminal cases filed in county court.

Judge Smiley had four degrees from Florida State University and the University of West Florida and has 21 years of legal experience.

He also points out he has been active in the reorganization and administration of the county courts during his career.

Panama City Attorney Hoot Crawford has already filed to run against Smiley in this fall’s elections.
