State Attorney Upset With Clemency

Casey Bloom, the drunk driver who killed a Bay County teenager in a 1995 crash, has been granted clemency and is a free man.

State Attorney Steve Meadows is upset, saying the decision made by the governor and cabinet is inappropriate.

Bloom was convicted on DUI manslaughter charges for the Back Beach Road crash which killed 17-year-old Donnelle McGraw.

The victim’s mother asked the courts to be lenient on Bloom. He served 11 months of a 22-month sentence and was put on probation through 2011.

As part of that probation, he and the victim’s mother put on a series of anti drunk driving appearances at local high schools.

Meadows argued against the clemency at a hearing last month, saying Bloom had violated his probation and should go to prison.
