Bay County commissioners approved a new subdivision for the Bream Pond area.
The developer will be able to build and sell about 40 homes around the lake.
The area does not have sewer lines, so the homes will have to have septic tanks. And that has some people concerned.
Bream Pond is one of 17 lakes in the Sand Hills area. Not only do they serve as a source for recreation, they also help filter the water that is part of the area's aquifer.
Some of that water eventually ends up in the Econfina Creek, which supplies Bay County with its drinking water.
County commissioners approved the subdivision saying they'll be making some changes soon.
Some Sand Hills residents don’t share the immediate concerns, but also say they don't want to see pollution become a problem.
