The last of the 3-suspects in the so-called Shadow Bay home invasion robbery and murder, will soon be heading to prison. it took a local jury just 2-hours to convict 29-year-old Ahmad Smith of first degree murder.
Back on October 3rd, 2006, Smith and his two partners, Eric Harden and Jay Broxton, showed up at the home of Broxton's half-brother James Edwards. Investigators say the trio robbed Edwards of his wallet and some marijuana, then shot him.
The men then fled to Jacksonville. They were all arrested within 3-weeks.
Edwards and Broxton have already been convicted. Smith was the last to go on trial. He rejected a 20-year plea deal and took his chances in court.
The gamble did not pay off. Earlier Friday evening, a jury found him guilty of first degree murder, robbery with a firearm and burglary of a dwelling with a firearm.
He faces a mandatory life sentence.
