Hurricane season may prove to be too much for many of the boat now anchored in the local bays and bayous.

There are no state or local regulations on mooring boats.

The county is searching for property to build a marina in the future, but they say they need a solution to this problem now.

Commissioners are considering requirements for more anchors, stronger lines, and registered moorings.

Another benefit of registered moorings is the ability to track down owners who abandon boats, which creates navigational hazards and are just plain ugly.

Commissioners instructed their staff members to look into possible mooring guidelines and any laws regulating the duties of a harbormaster.
