1970: It was the year the Beatles broke up, and you could get a gallon of gas for 29 cents.

It was also the year that then 20-year-old Wanda McMullon began her teaching career at Parker Elementary.

Now, 36 years later, she's retiring.

The kids certainly love her, from the young children to the moms and the grandmothers she's taught.

Friends and family gathered together in a retirement celebration. And from getting a day named in her honor to poking fun at her flashy earrings, Mrs. McMullon was surrounded by the love and support she's given to each person present.

It may be the final chapter in her book at Parker Elementary, but she's not quite finished just yet.

"I still tutor. I tutor children at our church that can't afford tutoring services. I still tutor. I'll always have the teacher in me."
