Retired Gen. Wesley Clark made a stop in Destin as part of his northwest Florida tour.
Gen Clark spent all morning talking to supporters about Sen. Obama's plan for providing better healthcare for veterans.
Around 7:30 this morning, a little over 100 people showed up at the Harbor Docks Restaurant in Destin to hear retired Gen. Wesley Clark speak about Sen. Obama's plans to better serve America's veterans, and his message was well received.
Democratic supporters chanted hopeful words in reaction to Gen. Clark's speech. He began his morning talk addressing Obama's plans to change the way the healthcare system treats veterans.
Gen Wesley Clark said, "It's like going into a restaurant and seeing a great menu, ordering the filet mignon and being served ramen noodles. We've got a great group of men and women who are taking care of our veterans, but they're not adequately resourced. He means it, and he will put the resources behind it."
Veteran Fred Hoole says this issue alone is enough for him to change his vote from Republican to Democrat.
Fred Hoole said, "The last time I voted for a Democrat was 1948, and that was for Harry Truman. I'm worried about my kids and my grandkids."
After his speech, Gen. Clark opened the floor for questions. One local asked what Gen. Clark meant in June when he said being shot down does not qualify McCain to be president.
Clark didn't quite have an answer.
"Why do you want me to talk about the controversy of my remarks? You want to make more controversy?"
Veterans say, overall, the visit was important to the area and one they won't forget anytime soon.
Theodore Walker, an Obama supporter, said, "The most important part was really all of it. It was important to me and to Okaloosa County."
The next stop on Gen. Clark's northwest Florida visit was Crestview, followed by Pensacola.

Just to set the record straight, by the time General Clark started speaking just after 8am, I counted 203 in the audience - a pretty good turnout for the "reddest" county in Florida.
