The Bay County Grand Jury on Thursday indicted Dawn Ruthann Ross and Judy Lynn Gsell of first-degree murder and robbery in the death of Gsell’s husband Raymond.
According to sheriff’s investigators, Judy Gsell, Ross and another woman were taking crack cocaine, prescription drugs and alcohol the morning of Jan. 20 when Ross and Gsell
attacked 80-year-old Raymond Gsell, robbed and killed him.
Investigators said Judy Gsell and Ross held two ends of an electrical cord wrapped around Raymond Gsell’s neck and strangled him to death. They placed his body in a freezer, taped it shut and left the home.
Bay County Grand Jurors found probable cause that the women acted both with premeditation and during the commission of the other felony of robbery when they killed Raymond Gsell.
They were indicted of both premeditated and felony first-degree murder. A panel of senior assistant state attorneys will meet to review the case and decide whether the State Attorney’s Office should pursue the death penalty against either woman.
