The Old Fort Road boat ramp in Wakulla County is very popular with boaters and other outdoor recreationists from the area, Georgia and Alabama. Because of its popularity, long waits for launching and parking were a common problem.
On Thursday, Oct. 9, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the expansion of the boat ramp, which includes a new two-lane boat ramp with boarding dock, an expanded and improved parking lot, a restroom and signage.
Wakulla County applied for and received a grant to improve the ramp from the FWC’s Florida Boating Improvement Program.
The new facilities will alleviate some of the problems with waiting for launching and parking. Counties and cities in Florida can apply with FBIP to receive funds to build or improve boat ramps.
