This area will be getting an additional circuit judge.
Gov. Jeb Bush allowed House Bill 113 to become law without his signature this past weekend. The bill authorizes new judges around the state, including one new circuit judgeship for the 14th Judicial Circuit.
Bush is not happy with some of the provisions of the bill, but let it become law because of the need for additional judges.
Bay County Judge Elijah Smiley has already indicated he will apply for this new judgeship, thereby giving up his re-election bid for his current post.
This would leave attorneys Shane Vann and Hoot Crawford to battle it out for Smiley's county judgeship.
