One person died early Tuesday morning and 10 people were injured, five of them seriously, in a single vehicle traffic accident on Interstate 10 near DeFuniak Springs.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a new van with 10 passengers ran off the interstate and went into a spin in a concrete ditch. The vehicle then overturned as it entered the woods.
Four of the 10 passengers were thrown out during this violent chain of events.
Killed was one of the passengers, 24-year-old Christian Monica Chatman of Donalsonville, Ga.
Six passengers were seriously injured and were life-flighted to several different hospitals. Four others suffered minor injuries, including the driver of the van, Shawn Patrick Winchester, 32, of Donalsonville, Ga.
The injured ranged in age from four to 28 years of age. Their hometowns were listed as Belle Rose, La and Donalsonville, Ga.
Troopers say the driver turned to look over his shoulder and lost control of the 2006 model van. It was totaled in the mishap.
