Inmate Dies After Being Stunned Twice With Taser

Deputies say an inmate with a history of mental illness has died after being shot twice with a taser at the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola.

A spokesman says the man who died was 45-year-old Jerry Preyer of Pensacola.

Authorities say that after becoming combative, Preyer was strapped in a restraint chair. He calmed down in the chair, but became aggressive after he was let out. Deputies then tried to restrain him again and shot him with a Taser twice to subdue him.

Authorities called paramedics after Preyer showed signs of delirium. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
