Navy Lt. Junior Grade Michael Monroe received the bronze star at the Naval Support Activity on Panama City Beach.
Lieutenant Monroe served as explosive ordnance technician and force protection officer while deployed with naval special warfare squadron in Afghanistan.
During Operation Enduring Freedom, Monroe planned, coordinated and supervised the safe disposal of more than 2,000 pounds of rocket propelled grenades and other explosives.
Now he'll help some of the newer personnel perform similar duties.
Navy chief Paul Waz and Senior Chief Clark Cook also received medals for their Navy service.
