Panama City commissioners considered Commissioner Jonathon Wilson's proposal to expand part of the Community Redevelopment Area to include one of the historically poorer sections of town.
Commissioner Wilson recommended the city extend the CRA all the way to Highway 231, which would take in the Glenwood area. Right now the Panama City CRA stops at 12th Street.
The CRA is a section of land considered "blighted." The city can collect a portion of the property taxes to revitalize properties within the designated area.
Wilson believes the new designation would attract more businesses and bring new homebuyers to Glenwood.
Before the area can be added to the CRA a "study of blight" must be conducted to see how poor of shape the area is in. Commissioners will discuss this at the next meeting in two weeks.
In other action, commissioners made a change in policy for delinquent utility bills. If the city shuts off your water, workers will only turn it back on the same day if you pay the bill before noon. Otherwise, it'll be turned back on the next day.
