Three people have lost their lives in separate traffic accidents in this immediate area so far during the long Fourth of July holiday weekend.
A 28-year-old man died in a traffic crash in Washington County.
Ryan Keith Brock lost control of his SUV on Fanning Branch Road. His vehicle went into a spin, crossed both lanes of traffic, hit several rocks, became airborne and hit several trees. He was thrown partially through the windshield.
The wreck was discovered by Brock’s brother when he failed to return home.
Meanwhile, in Okaloosa County, a Fort Walton Beach woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly killing a 20-year-old woman while fleeing sheriff s deputies.
Forty-four-year-old Sharon Elaine Martin is being charged with aggravated fleeing, attempting to elude a law enforcement officer resulting in death, and reckless driving.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff s Office says it tried to pull Martin over after she supposedly ran a red light. Martin drove at a high rate of speed onto Eglin Parkway, crossing the Cinco Bayou Bridge. While trying to pass other vehicles slowing for a traffic signal at Highway Avenue, Martin lost control and went into the southbound lanes, hitting two cars.
The driver of one of the cars, 20-year-old Allison Angerman, was taken by helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where she died of her injuries.
Also in Okaloosa County, one person died Saturday in a traffic crash in Niceville.
Elsewhere, early Sunday morning a teenager from Mississippi was killed as he walked across Front Beach Road west of Highway 79 at the Sandpiper Beacon Motel.
Panama City Beach police identified the fatality as 19-year-old John McWilliams. He was hit by a compact car. The driver told police she didn’t see the victim before started crossing the road.
He was taken to a local hospital where he died a short time later.
Late Sunday night a 32-year-old local bicyclist became the fourth area traffic fatality for the holiday period when he was struck by a car at East 15th Street and Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd. in Panama City.
Panama City police are investigating and so far have not released the name of the person killed until relatives are notified.
