Patronis Leaves Airport Board

Panama City Airport Authority board member Jimmy Patronis officially stepped down from his seat on the board during Thursday’s meeting.

Patronis is running for the District 6 House seat Speaker Allen Bense currently occupies.

Patronis asked for his resignation to be made official Thursday after he filed his qualifying papers in Tallahassee.

Patronis is serving his first of four years in his second term on the airport board.

Because Patronis occupies the "at large seat," the other 4 Airport Board members will select his replacement.

He says he's sad to be leaving. But even though he won't sit on the board, he say's he'll stay involved in the future of the new airport.

“I've never been a quitter and I've never left an opportunity such as this and it's unfortunate it’s come up at this time, but sacrifices have to be made to preserve other goals I've got in my life."

The at large seat will be advertised. The board members hope to have it filled by the August 8 board meeting.
