A bow hunter from Freeport was hospitalized at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola following a hunting accident Sunday.

Larry Wayne Adkinson, 53 was hunting in the woods of northeast Walton County when he fell about 22 feet from a deer stand.

Jemesy Owen, investigator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says a holding strap on a portable tree stand slipped and Adkinson was dropped 22 feet.

Both his legs were broken, his heels were crushed and, on top of this, he landed in a large fire ant mound and sustained a number of bites.
