The Bay County Health Department is temporarily halting flu shots and other vaccines. According to Health Department Director Dr. Jason Newsom, the health department's refrigerator malfunctioned last Thursday night.

Many of the vaccines were lost because their temperatures rose too high. Replacements are on order.

Newsom says the flu vaccine was not ruined, but until the new shipment of all the vaccines comes in, the health department will not be dispensing any shots.

"In the meantime rather than trying to give vaccines on a piecemeal basis and trying to communicate to the public that we have vaccines x and y and we don't have vaccines A and B, we felt it was just simpler to not give vaccines until we were completely back up to stock," said Dr. Jason Newsom.

Newsom expects to have all the vaccines replaced in a few weeks.
