Cedar Grove will officially cease to exist on December 1.

Bay County commissioners finally set the formal date for the county to begin its operation of the former town.

Since October 3 the commission has been working with former town officials to transition the city to the county when the citizens voted to dissolve.

The police services have already been transferred to the Bay County Sheriff's Office. The commissioners approved the formal memo in Tuesday's meeting which will close out all the Cedar Grove previous agreements and formally transfer the operations to Bay County.

Jerry Girvin of the Bay County Commission said, "Everything in terms of the city stops, and being part of the county period begins. That makes it very clear that at that point obligations are met by the county that previous agreements for example franchise fees on power water and even propane gas stop at that point in time, so everything is moving smoothly, considerably smoother than we had anticipated given the fact that this is the first time this has ever happened. We're totally breaking new ground."

The county had until December 31 to make the final changeover, but was able to make the transition by the 1st.
