For thirty years, legal services of North Florida have been representing poor and disadvantaged people of the panhandle. Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, best known in this area for representing Martin Lee Anderson’s family in the boot camp death case, is the board's president.
Today, the building which houses the legal services was named in his honor. It's now the parks and crump justice center. Crump's Law Firm, Parks & Crump’s, made a $1 million dollar planned gift to lSNF.
The organization has been trying to raise 2-million dollars to establish an endowment fund for the future of lSNF.
Crump says the building's new name was chosen for all the children who don't have a place to sleep or parents to watch over them and for children who live in fear and hunger and without hope.
Attorney, Benjamin Crump told News Channel 7, "It's an emotional day only because being here certainly makes you recount the situation dealing with Martin Lee Anderson and trying to say you did everything you could to get justice and this building is a symbol of justice."
Staff members applauded crump for his work over the years, including the Anderson case .
Anderson family attended today's luncheon.
