The holidays are a good time to share beauty secrets with friends and family, especially the wacky ones, which is why NBC Reporter Yvonne Nava decided to put some wacky beauty tips to the test.

Beauty sees no limits. Just ask Caitlin Spargo.

"The weirdest thing I have ever tried was Preparation-H under the eyes to reduce puffiness," said Spargo.

Yvonne asked, "Did it work?"

Spargo said, "Not really. It burned a lot."

Alright, so maybe that was just a myth, but some bizarre beauty tips have actually proven to be true.

"Like the procedure. You can do grapefruit and orange slices in a cup for ten minutes."

Cosmopolitan Magazine had some crazy ideas to share as well, and we decided to test a number of them.

These hairstylists work hard and stand on their feet all day.
"All of the pressure going right to the ball of your foot."

That can create bothersome calluses, but experts say Vaseline will do the trick. You just slather on petroleum jelly, and put on socks before bed. In time, it'll soften up the thick skin.

"Definitely soothing, but not like a sticky, wet, something is on my foot feeling."

Now let’s say it's your hair that's giving you problems, it looks a little funky, too oily perhaps. To help, try powdering your roots.

"She's putting powder on my hair because I don't wash it everyday so the powder gets rid of the grease."

You can use either baby powder or loose face powder. And if you're looking to give your locks a nicer smell, why not scent your strands. Spray a little perfume onto your comb, and run it through.

NBC Reporter Yvonne Nava said, "And inside the wash house here at the Paul Mitchell School they have their own beauty secret. It involves Perrier, sugar, and a lemon. Let's try it out. After a nice massage and shampoo wash, they add sugar around the hairline to exfoliate the scalp and squeeze a little lemon for a bit of zest."

“Oh, it tingles.”

Then comes the finale, a rinse with sparkling water like Perrier.

"I like to drink it, but I never would think to put it on my hair,” said Nava.

Now let's focus on the eyes. An easy way to draw attention to them without piling on the makeup is to comb Vaseline lightly through the tips of eyelashes.

And here's a couple pointers for men as well. It may sound strange, but if you put diaper rash cream on dry spots, it will heal cracked elbows or feet.

Got a nasty hangnail? Try dabbing on tea tree oil to protect cuticles from turning rough and ragged.

For the most part, these tips did the trick.

Erin Massey says she's ready to try them, especially since most of the ingredients are already in her house.

Erin Massey tries unconventional beauty tips and said, "Most likely you have those things and it's quick and it doesn't cost anything if You already have it."
