The recession has put a new face on the homeless. Some are spending their first Christmas at the Panama City Rescue Mission.

Being able to eat a hot meal at the Panama City Rescue Mission's 36th Annual Christmas Eve Dinner for some could be the only meal they get to enjoy this Christmas.
The troubling economy has forced some without a home for the very first time this holiday season.
"I do not like begging for basic necessities," said Robin King, a homeless person.
Robin King, who had a home in Bayou George, has been homeless for the past two days. She says she can't afford to pay her bills and now is trying to keep her head above water, and she never thought it would take her to the Rescue Mission.
“I came by the mission several times and I've felt fear of those people and sometimes disgust, and now I'm one of them and I have a whole different perspective on these people," King said.
King is not alone. A lot of people have fallen on hard times, but are trying to remain optimistic about their futures.
"I'm thankful for the food and the people and enjoy the fellowship you get with all the other people," said Bobby Spurlock, a homeless person.
Rev. Billy Fox says the mission fed almost 400 people Wednesday.
"It's a special day for them to be able to have this little bit of attention that we recognize them and other folks who need a little good will towards men," Fox, the mission's director, said.
And 80 people are showing that good will by taking time out of their busy holiday schedules to lend a helping hand.
"Giving back to the community, just coming out here makes me have a more appreciation for what I have," Monica Mason, a volunteer, said.
Rev. Fox is expecting to feed about 700 people total for the day.
