The Trane Air Conditioning Plant, one of Bay County's premier employers, completed a 50-person layoff.

The plant manufactures commercial air conditioning equipment in the Lynn Kaven Industrial Park.

Earlier this month management told employees declining market conditions were forcing the company to cut 50 production workers, using the "last hired, first fired" rule.

Trane spokesman Art Scheskie said 17 workers volunteered to go. Attrition accounted for another three positions. The final 30 layoffs took place last night.

Scheskie said Trane hopes the production cuts won't last no longer than 90 days, but the economy and the market conditions will determine that.

In the meantime Trane is working with the workforce officials to assist the laid off employees.

Although I'm sure the employees knew this was coming and it would have to be done eventually, did they have to do it on C-mas Eve? Happy Holidays to them I guess.
