The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's office is searching for the mother of a newborn baby -- whose body was found in a wooded area of Milton on Monday.

Sheriff's investigators say a person called 911 stating that the family dog had found what appeared to be an infant, near the wood line at the homeowner's property.

Deputies confirmed it was a newborn infant's body, however, they have not yet found how long the body had been in the woods.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine how the baby died.

Should you have any information that could help and identify the baby's mother, call the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's office at 850-983-1100.

Someone took this child out into the woods, laid it down, turned around, and walked away. There is absolutely no excuse and no defense to this. Regardless of whether the child was already dead or if the child was alive, you just do not take a newborn child, put them in the woods and walk away. That act is cold, cruel and heartless and I don't care if the mother has been abused, has no support, no husband or whatever excuse ya'll want to use, it takes a warped individual to do this to a child. There is no situation that the mother could be in that would excuse this. None whatsoever.

Those of you who cast your stones are not GOD and are not put here to judge this person. Yes, you may have your opinion, we all do. But I agree with Michelle and Ashley. Not everyone has strong support groups, we do not know if the mother herself is perhaps a victim of some sort. We just do not know. I as much as anyone dislike hearing these type of stories that seem to be growin at an alarming rate every day just as the stories of women being beaten, raped and killed by men. We seem to establish more and more laws into the books but what are we really doing to remedy the situation?

There can be no allowance for showing mercy to mothers who murder or abandon their newborns, after safe haven laws for legal abandonment of unharmed infants have been established in every state.
