Someone took this child out into the woods, laid it down, turned around, and walked away. There is absolutely no excuse and no defense to this. Regardless of whether the child was already dead or if the child was alive, you just do not take a newborn child, put them in the woods and walk away. That act is cold, cruel and heartless and I don't care if the mother has been abused, has no support, no husband or whatever excuse ya'll want to use, it takes a warped individual to do this to a child. There is no situation that the mother could be in that would excuse this. None whatsoever.

Those of you who cast your stones are not GOD and are not put here to judge this person. Yes, you may have your opinion, we all do. But I agree with Michelle and Ashley. Not everyone has strong support groups, we do not know if the mother herself is perhaps a victim of some sort. We just do not know. I as much as anyone dislike hearing these type of stories that seem to be growin at an alarming rate every day just as the stories of women being beaten, raped and killed by men. We seem to establish more and more laws into the books but what are we really doing to remedy the situation?

There can be no allowance for showing mercy to mothers who murder or abandon their newborns, after safe haven laws for legal abandonment of unharmed infants have been established in every state.

I agree with Ashley, it is horrific. And it is wrong to blame the mother alone. Where is the father? Perhaps he left the baby there and perhaps the mothers body hasn't turned up yet. And as far as the safe houses go, it is great that we have places like these available. However, what about the girl that dropped her baby off in front of a church just a few months ago and was on video. Then they aired the video on the news trying to locate her. These type of actions will only discourage girls/women to drop theses precious babies at safe houses. It is supposed to be annonymous, let's keep it that way. We don't need to interfere with these females who have obviously already had to make a very difficult decision. Let's just be glad they made a better choice for their babies, instead of the alternative.

It's bad. It's horrific. It's selfish. But it's also wrong to blame the girl/woman alone. It's not like she got pregnant by herself. Why aren't we searching for the father too? Even if he didn't know the baby exsisted, shouldn't we at least try to find out the whole story before we call this desperate person a 'monster'. What this person did was horrible and inhumane. But before you start throwing judgements around, realize that we will never know the complete story. Think about it. If it was a teenager, chances are she was scared witless and maybe didn't even really know what was going on with her body. Teenagers aren't really known for their responsible choices, you know. While we're on a witch hunt, why not pull pu the parents on charges- it's neglectful to not know your kid well enough to know that your kid is pregnant. Or to know and not ask "where's the baby?" Let's think a little about this before we hurl stones.

I am sorry, but there is no excuse. All one would have to do is to take it to a safe place. The parents would not know about it. After all she had to deliver it, where did this happen. I am sorry, but in today's world there is no reason to get pregnant.

It's truly sad. But there could be a number of possibilities, such as a teenager who didn't want her parents to know. Or just another sick human being.

I am tired of all the woman "dumping" their children! What is wrong with them? They need some help. I can't imagine looking into my childs eyes and then walking away and leaving them for dead. Take them to a hospital, fire station, or police dept. These woman don't even have to leave them their name! Just protect the baby. Why would you put a poor innocent child through lord only knows what! These woman are disgusting!

I'm so tired of reading story after story of people beating, killing, or neglecting their children. No matter how dire things are....PLEASE don't take it out on your little ones. If you feel that you cannot take care of them (or just don't want to), there are safe places to take them. Plus, you can avoid criminal charges. Please!!!

Thats so wrong how woman can open their legs and then do such a horrible thing to a innocent baby like that if I knew who the mother was I would turn her in a sec. That is so wrong dumping a newborn or any child in the woods for dead...God Blesses all Newborns and Childrens who are not treated right.
