Today was the last day in office for a long time bay county government official.

Harold Bazzel spent 28 years as the clerk of courts and decided to call it a career this year.

Newschannel 7's Mark Vaughn sat down with Bazzel during his last day at the courthouse.

This is video of Harold Bazzel's swearing in ceremony from 1981.

He's seen and done a lot in his nearly three decades as Bay County's Fifth Clerk of Courts.

Harrold Bazzel says, “I have been blessed that I have served longer than any other clerk in the history of Bay County. And in this day and age of politics you don't see a whole lot of that anymore. It makes me proud that we as a group have done well enough that people trusted us and have confidence in us."

Bazzel spent some of his last day looking through a scrapbook full of memories.

It was made by his secretary, Tammy Hoffman, who's been at the courthouse even longer than Bazzel, she's spent 31 years working there and Bazzel says it's appropriate that they both leave together.

"I couldn't have done it without Tammy. She's been my right arm particularly for the last four years. She loves this office it's been her life since she was a teenager."

Bazzel said that his last day was emotional, and will he miss seeing the people he's worked with all these years.

As far as his future goes, he says he isn't ruling out some form of public service, but he just wants to relax for a while.

And he's confident that his successor, Bill Kinsaul will run the office well.

"I think it will continue on. The clerk's office is going to do well."

Bill Kinsaul will be sworn into office at 4:30 p.m., Monday.
