A new pet friendly dining ordinance could be in place well before the dog days of summer.
The Panama City Beach city council will have its first reading of a doggie dining ordinance. The ordinance would allow pet owners to bring their dog with them to restaurants with outside eating areas.
Some controversy came about when Hofbrau in Pier Park was issued two citations for allowing dogs inside their fenced outdoor area even though Pier Park is considered a pet friendly place.
If the ordinance is passed restaurants must get a permit and these are some of the rules they will have to live by. Dogs must be on a leash, there must be hand sanitizer at all tables, signs with rules must be posted, and dogs cannot be inside restaurant.
Will Robbins of Hofbrau said, "I think people should be able to eat with their dogs as long as they behave. As long as they can sit down and behave I don't see a problem with people being able to eat with their dogs."
The Panama City Beach city council is meeting as we speak at Panama City Beach City Hall.
