A Bay County man is sitting in the Dale County, Alabama jail in connection with a police chase.
Authorities say 25-year-old Antonio Worlds led Dale and Pike County officers on a chase Friday that reached speeds of more than 100 miles an hour.
It started when an Alabama state trooper tried to pull over World's car in Dale County north of Dothan on US 231. The chase was on.
Officers in Pike County put down spike strips. They say Worlds avoided them, but slammed his vehicle into a tree, then ran from the scene. Officers used K-9 units and a chopper to find Worlds about an hour later.
Springfield police say Worlds is a "person of interest" in last week's the shooting of 16-year-old Tarvish Greene. Someone shot Greene in the leg with a 12-gauge shotgun around 10:15 last Monday night.
Officers found the suspected gun in a vacant lot across the street from Greene's home. Police made one arrest, charging 22-year-old Jerry Greene II with tampering with evidence.
Investigators say the shooting was gang related, but Greene's family denies that allegation.
Alabama authorities are charging Worlds with reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving and attempting to elude police.
Besides the Springfield case, Worlds has outstanding warrants here in Bay County on criminal mischief, battery and violating probation on a resisting arrest with violence charge.
There’s no word as to when Worlds will be extradited back to Panama City.
