With unemployment skyrocketing, more and more people are looking for extra income...or just looking to get by.
Does working from home on the internet hold the answer?
Money Reporter Stacy Johnson talked to one internet entrepreneur to see how it's done.
"I like to blog about anything that can help people. I'm really taboo...I like to talk about things that nobody else will touch, like spirituality and politics."
And for the last several years, Brooke Kelley has been doing just that: talking about the things she likes at her personal blog, and guest-blogging on other sites. She's having fun and paying the bills. For her, working from home works.
Brooke Kelley with Composing-Moments.com said, "You don't have to pay for gas, and you don't have to take a shower first thing when you wake up and get in the car, you know, and you don't have to wear make-up, you just sit on your bed."
Blogging, which is essentially just professional writing, is one way to get paid working online.
You download a template, start writing, and hopefully develop enough of a following to sell ads on your blog. Another way is to write for other websites: from music to sports to hometown entertainment sites, many will pay by the article.
To get started, volunteer a free sample.
Not a professional writer? Then be a salesman. Find a category of products you both know and love and find buyers at eBay, Amazon.com or other sites. And if you're an artist or craftsman, a 4th way to make money is to sell your work on websites designed to showcase and sell homemade stuff.
Bottom line? If you've got an internet connection and a computer, you might make some extra money at home. But ignore the get-rich-quick ads, do something you love, research it like crazy and don't quit your day job.
