Two -year-old Valencia Newton was viciously attacked by a pit bull last Monday in Callaway..

She was in the care of her baby-sitter when the dog attacked.

This pit bull named dodge pulled her hair out, tore off part of Valencia's earlobe and mauled her throat and neck.

She was taken to Shands Hospital where she had to undergo surgery for her injuries.

She's now back home recovering.

Since the attack, dodge has been under a 10 day watch at the Bay County Animal Control until investigators decide what to do.

Those ten days have now expired. So what happens now?
Originally, the owner said she wanted the dog destroyed. Now we're learning that's not the case.

"The paperwork was served on 2 people that said they are the owners of the dog and that was done on Tuesday," Judy Whitis, Callaway's City Manager said.

And if no appeal is reached?

"Then the dog will be euthanized," Whitis said.

But if there is an appeal, the owners will appear before a special magistrate for a decision in this case.

Right now, dodge remains at the Bay County Animal Control.

"Bay County Animal Control has done everything that we need to do. At this point, basically we're awaiting a decision from Callaway's special magistrate if in fact one of the dog's owners decides to make an appeal," Valeria Lovett, Bay County's PIO said.

It seems dodge the dog has dodged his fate, at least until next Tuesday.

As of Thursday, no appeal has been made in this case.
