Months after plans to build the first Walton County Animal Shelter were announced, residents of Rock Hill, north of Freeport, have voiced many concerns to Walton’s Board of Commissioners.
The plan called for the new shelter to go in their area, but residents said housing dozens of animals there would be too noisy and animals might escape into the neighborhood.
Last week the county agreed to move to site to 30 acres adjacent from the county jail north of DeFuniak Springs.
County commissioners say they hope to start construction on the new shelter within the year and have it completed by this time next year.
