Panama City Beach Police arrested 52-year-old Douglas Jackson Brooks, better known as country music artist Doug Stone, overnight at a beach condo. The Newnan, Georgia, native is accused of domestic battery against his 22-year-old son, Dustin Brooks.
At about 3:30 Thursday morning P.C.B. Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at Grand Panama Condo Resort on Front Beach Road.
When officers arrived, resort security reported they saw Stone on the floor with his son in a headlock. When officers arrived, they observed Brooks’ face was bloody.
Officers say the father attacked his son after the younger Brooks began badgering his father about wrecking the car a short time earlier, and being intoxicated.
Panama City Beach Police say about an hour before they received the disturbance call at Grand Panama, Stone allegedly ran over a curb and blew out a tire in his vehicle. When officers arrived, Stone was standing outside of his car.
Officers believed Stone was intoxicated, however, since they didn't physically see Stone behind the wheel, they couldn't prove he was driving. Instead, they assisted Stone in calling a tow truck to take care of his vehicle. Stone returned to Grand Panama where he and his son were staying.
Brooks told officers he wanted to press charges, so they arrested Stone on one count of Domestic Battery.
He is currently being held in the Bay County Jail on Bond.
Douglas Stone’s career was launched after “I’d be Better Off (In a Pine Box),” in late 1990. Stone has charted 22 singles, four of which reached number one. Stone also made a brief venture into acting, starring in the 1995 Disney movie, “Gordy.”
