Over the past few weeks a familiar sight to some people in the Panhandle has been sitting in the middle of Pier Park. Now it's back up and running.

This used to be at the old Miracle Strip amusement park in Panama City Beach for 30 years. It's a 1964 Allan Herchell carousel.

The carousel officially had it's grand opening Saturday. The carousel is 45 years old and still looks brand new.

Organizers tell us they found it at the old Miracle Strip park and thought it would be a great idea to bring it back to life.

"It was amazing because everything out there was trashed you know. Broken glass, the buildings were all destroyed but the carousel itself was in great shape and it needed a good cleaning and a top and a new motor," Teddy Meeks, of Miracle Strip carousel said.

A go around the merry -go- round Saturday will cost you $2.50 for it's grand opening special or you can buy a $5.00 arm band and you can ride all day. Regular tickets are going to be three-dollars after Saturday. The carousel opens up at noon daily.

I grew up with Miracle Strip Amusement Park. It is great they were able to refurbish and reuse this but with the economy the way that it is the price is to high and I can guarantee my family won't be riding it even for nostalgia sake.
