Trial to Open in Strip Search Case

The trial of a Panama City, Florida man who orchestrated an illegal strip search of an 18-year-old female McDonald's employee in north central Kentucky is scheduled to go on trial this week.

David Stewart of Fountain is charged with impersonating a police officer and soliciting sodomy through a hoax on April 9, 2004 he allegedly perpetrated from a pay phone hundreds of miles from Kentucky. The high school senior was sexually degraded for hours at a McDonald's in Mount Washington.

Stewart's lawyer, Steve Romines, will try to convince the jury that his 39-year-old client is too unsophisticated to have pulled off the hoax, which included the background noise of a police scanner and the mention of real McDonald's executives' names.

Stewart recently completed a 672-hour criminal justice course at a Florida junior college with honors for perfect attendance.

Mount Washington is 16 miles southeast of Louisville.
