Walton County Artist of the Year

Bill Stephenson is proof that life begins after retirement.

Stephenson began woodworking about the same time that he retired from his job as a computer designer for Proctor and Gamble.

Now, he has been named Walton County's Artist of the Year.

Stephenson says the selection process was grueling, but as the Artist of the Year, he'll be commissioned to do artwork around the county.

Stephenson says he gets most of his inspiration from the beaches and scavenges almost all of the wood he uses from nearby construction sights.

Stephenson's workshop is connected to his Santa Rosa Beach home, and he says he spends about six hours a day working.

He says his new career is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

Stephenson sells his woodwork out of his local studio and at fairs around the country.
