This Memorial Day weekend proved fatal on Jackson County roads.
A little before 7 o'clock in the evening Saturday, 35-year-old Micheal Gene Stephens of Marianna was involved in a single car accident that claimed his life.
Stephens was headed north on County Road 164-A when he drifted onto the shoulder of the road, then overcorrected, crossing the road and overturning his pick up truck.
His Dodge truck struck several trees, and Stephens was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Jackson Hospital in Marianna.
Not even 24 hours later, tragedy struck again on the roads of Jackson County, when 82-year old Nell Anna Whittle, of Sneads, drifted across the center line in her car on US 90 one mile east of Sneads.
Coming from the other direction, Ivory McMillon, of Chattahoochee, tried to avoid the collision, but Whittle's vehicle struck his van.
Whittle died a few hours later. McMillon was not seriously injured.
