Calhoun County has a new humane society.
Currently the only animal shelter in the county is in Blountstown, but it doesn't house animals outside the city limits.
The goal of the organization is to promote animal control and protection.
They also want to educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.
Right now, the humane society doesn't have a permanent facility.
They’re asking for volunteer foster families to provide homes for incoming animals.
"We can put the pictures of the animals up on the website and do what we can to find a place for them, and as the need arises, hopefully find temporary and then permanent placement for these animals," says Calhoun County Humane Society Founder Patti Wood.
If you would like to adopt a pet or want more information about helping out, you can visit their website at www.calhouncountyhumanesociety.net.
