Bay County will soon show appreciation for the men and women serving our country. The governor's office has chosen Panama City to be one of the five sights for the 2006 Salute to Florida Heroes.
Bay County hosted this event in 2004. This event recognizes returning Guardsman coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan in recent months.
Military personnel from surrounding counties are to be honored as well. There will be helicopters and tanks on display for people to enjoy.
Gov. Jeb Bush and other elected officials will speak and Tyndall's Air Force will provide a flyover. Even though the state chose Bay County as a location to host the event, the Chamber of Commerce still had to fund it.
So far, fundraising hasn't been too difficult.
Carol Roberts of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce said, "You have to remember you're in Bay County and all you have to do is say that you have a need, especially when it comes to our military, and Bay County steps up to the plate."
But there is still more costs needing to be handled. If you'd like to make a donation to help the Chamber host the tribute, you can call 215-3758.
The Salute to Florida Heroes is open to the public. It will be held at Frank Brown Park Saturday, December 9 from 10:00 to 2:00.
